The deadline for withdrawal of nominations for polling in Mizoram and first phase of Chhattisgarh has ended. A total of 174 nominations have been finalised in Mizoram for 40 seats and 223 candidates in Chhattisgarh for 20 seats in the first phase on November 7, according to Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs).
The Mizoram CEO's office reports that among the 174 candidates, 16 are female and 27 are independent. It stated, "No reports of candidate withdrawals have been made."
Each of the three major parties—the Congress, the Mizo National Front, and the Zoram People's Movement—has at least 40 candidates; the BJP has 23, and the Aam Aadmi Party has four. Every one of the four AAP contenders is running from the Aizawl district.
Aizawl district has the most contestants in the race, with 55 overall; Lunglei is second with 27 candidates. Khawzawl (four contenders) and Hnahthial (three candidates) have the fewest number of contestants.
The term of the 40-seat Mizoram assembly is ending on December 17. The state has 8.51 lakh voters with a gender ratio of 1,060. More than 3,000 voters with disabilities (PwD) and over 9,000 voters who are over 80 years old will be able to cast their ballots at home thanks to the ECI. They will have the opportunity to vote from the comfort of their homes this time.
