Kochi: The Kerala Police on Wednesday (Oct 25) said that Jailer actor Vinayakan was booked with maximum charges for creating a ruckus at the Ernakulam Police Station. The reply was given by Kochi DCP S Sasidharan to Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas' allegations that the actor was released on bail for his affiliation with the Left government. The actor, who abused officers at the police station, was detained on Tuesday night and released that evening following a medical test. A case has been filed against the actor for behaving without self-control in a public place, shouting at government officials without cause and behaving in an indecent manner.
"The police have not yielded to any influence. A case has been filed against Vinayakan for creating a ruckus and obstruction of duty under two sections of the Kerala Police Act. They are each subject to a maximum three-year jail term. There is yet no proof that Vinayakan attempted to attack the officers. The CCTV footage is also being looked at. More sections will be charged and a case will be filed if it is established that there was an assault," the DCP said.
"In the event that he has a personal issue, the police will step in. After drinking, the actor experiences a few problems. In the past, there has also been a minor issue similar to this," he said.
Thrikkakara Congress MLA Uma Thomas had slammed authorities for releasing Vinayakan on bail with weak charges. She also said that she is interested to know whether Vinayakan was released following the instructions received from the Cliff House.
Vinayakan had called the police to his house last afternoon to resolve a family dispute. The actor misbehaved with the four cops who came to the house, including the policewoman.
Vinayakan, who reached the police station at 7.30 pm, was arrested and taken to the Ernakulam General Hospital for medical examination. The actor responded to the media and told them that he came to the police station to lodge a complaint and that he was not aware of the arrest or the medical examination.
