2.53 PM: High Court stays case against NSS Namajapa Yatra for four weeks

The Cantonment police filed a case against Nair Service Society's (NSS) 'Namajapa' procession that was held last week as a mark of protest against Speaker AN Shamseer on his controversial remark on Hindu deity Lord Ganesha. Over 1000 people have been booked with NSS Vice President Sangeeth Kumar as the first accused in the FIR. The High Court on Thursday stayed the case based on the plea filed by Kumar.


2.30 PM: Relief to Bineesh Kodiyeri; Karnataka HC stays trial court proceedings 

The Karnataka High Court observed that the prima facie case of money laundering cannot stand against Bineesh Kodiyeri as he is not an accused in the drug smuggling case. As the case against Bineesh has been stayed, Bineesh will not have to appear in the trial court until the High Court proceedings are over. In June, his petition for relief in the case was rejected by the 34th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court.


2.20 PM: Tamil Nadu CM's wife Durga Stalin offers golden crown in Guruvayur temple

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's wife, Durga Stalin, offered a golden crown weighing 32 sovereigns to Guruvayurappan at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, Thrissur on Thursday. She also donated a machine to grind sandalwood into a paste.

12.30 PM: Asianet News campaign sees success with the passing of resolution in Assembly to rename Kerala

The campaign of Asianet News has emerged successful as the state Assembly passed the resolution to change the name of Kerala to Keralam. In the week-long campaign titled 'Muzhangatte Keralam', eminent personalities from the field of literature and culture came with their support. Two years ago, Asianet News organised 'Muzhangatte Keralam' campaign. Prominent people demanded that the name of the state of Kerala be changed to Keralam. The then Culture Minister Saji Cherian took a positive stance towards the proposal. MB Rajesh, who was the speaker, also supported the campaign of Asianet News. At the end of a week of campaigning, Asianet News discussed in detail 'Muzhangatte Keralam' on November 1, 2021, Kerala Day. The government's decision is a continuation of this campaign. 


11.45 AM: Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran, Balussery MLA Sachin Dev blessed with a baby girl

The youngest mayor in the country Arya Rajendran and youngest MLA of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly Sachin Dev welcomed a baby girl on Thursday morning. She gave birth to the child at SAT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The couple tied the knot in September 2022.


11.00 AM: Kerala HC grants anticipatory bail to Shajan Skariah accused of inciting religious hatred

The Kerala High Court on Thursday (Aug 10) granted anticipatory bail to Marunadan Malayali editor Shajan Skariah who was accused of inciting religious hatred on his Youtube channel. The case was registered by Nilambur police. The court has directed him to appear before the investigating officer on the 17th of this month.


10.30 AM: 'It's corrupt money...' MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar slams Kerala CM over 'payments' to daughter

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded to the 'monthly quota' controversy stating that the Chief Minister is acquiring money on behalf of his daughter Veena Vijayan. He alleged that Veena is the service tax in Kerala. He urged the CM to clarify the issue which is corrupt money.

9.30 AM: Kerala High Court bars convicts from using section 389 CrPC for interim release

The Kerala High Court recently ruled that the interim suspension of sentence and release of the prisoner for temporary needs like illness or marriage are not contemplated by Section 389 of the CrPC, while also stating that such release should be requested under the Prisons Act and Rules through the process of leave or parole.


8.50 AM: Will CPI(M) field Oommen Chandy's confidante in Puthuppally? 

There are speculations that CPI(M) may field a Congress leader for Puthuppally bypolls. However, the party has rubbished the rumours. At the same time, Minister V N Vasavan said that he will move legal action if the UDF mentions 'sainthood' directing Oommen Chandy during the election campaign. He said that religious matters should not be discussed in elections and UDF leaders should follow the code of conduct of the Election Commission.


8.35 AM: After Kochi, govt mulls to introduce Water Metro project in Kollam

Following the successful operation of Kochi Water Metro, the government is planning to begin another Water Metro project in Kollam too. The district's mayor held a preliminary discussion with the Water Transport Department to make the project a reality in Kollam. The Kollam Water Metro project will be developed in a bid to boost tourism.


8.26 AM: Tanur custodial death case handed over to CBI

The Kerala government handed the Tanur custodial death case of Tirurangadi native Thamir Jiffri (30) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Currently, the crime branch is investigating the case. The decision to hand the case over to the CBI has been praised by the deceased's relatives. The family wanted a government agency other than the police to look into it. Harris Jiffri, his brother, retorted that he hope the CBI inquiry would reveal the truth.
