4.50 PM: Cracks spotted on national highway near Kuthiran tunnel; Locals protest after sealing with only cement

The contracting firm coated the Vazhukumpara National Highway crack near the Kuthiran tunnel with cement to seal it. The people of the area insisted on a permanent fix and demanded the construction of a concrete wall. The wall's building will shortly begin, according to the National Highway Project Director. Last night, KMC's contract workers filled the crack in by sealing it with cement. Additionally, tarpaulin was placed to stop the fissure from expanding after rain. 


3.02 PM: Three-year-old dies of fever in Wayanad; Second case in a week

A three-year-old toddler succumbed to fever in Wayanad district. The deceased is Vinod's son Libhijit of Ambalamoodu Colony, Kanyampata.The child had diarrhea and a fever for several days. This is the second child to die of fever in the district within a week. A four-year-old girl died of fever in Wayanad two days ago. Rudra, the daughter of Asokan Akhila had died in the Medical College Hospital.


2.57 PM: Kollam couple killed in tragic accident in Qatar

Five Indians, including three members of a Keralite family and a young couple, died in a terrible traffic accident near the Qatari seaside city of Al Khor. The three-year-old son of the couple, who is the only child, is in the hospital with critical wounds. The deceased are Roshin John (38), his wife Ancy Gomez (29); Ancy's brother Jijo Gomez (34); their friend Praveenkumar Shankar (38) and his wife Rajyalakshmi Chandrasekhar (33). The latter two were Tamil Nadu natives.


2.44 PM: Manipur violence: Baselios Marthoma Mathews III slams Centre for failure to bring situation under control

Baselios Marthoma Mathews III of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church said that there was a failure on the part of the central government in dealing with the Manipur riots. He said, "The riots in Manipur is not seen as a problem of religious minority only as people from both the groups are being killed. A particular tribe has several Christians. It is said that the government has intervened several times. But even after the departure of the Home Minister, the riots did not end." He added, "However, it is understood that Christians are the most affected. I don't know why the Prime Minister is not responding. "

The Kerala police's unit of Crime Branch has not initiated an inquiry against former DGP Loknath Behara with his alleged links with fake antique dealer Monson Mavunkal. The Crime Branch's decision to question the KPCC president K Sudhakaran was based on a statement made by complainants who had lost money in the cheating case and said they had given money to Mavunkal in Sudhakaran's presence. However, the CB has not yet investigated Loknath Behara.


8.31 AM: BJP likely to induct Suresh Gopi into Union Cabinet; All eyes on Thrissur constituency

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will likely induct actor Suresh Gopi into Union Cabinet and take over the Thrissur constituency in the next Lok Sabha elections. The BJP leadership believes Suresh Gopi has an independent support base in Thrissur. The BJP also views the Thrissur district as a testing ground for its effort to politically link itself with Christian churches. Earlier than that, the party's national leadership has major plans to increase voter favorability of Suresh Gopi by placing him in the Union Cabinet.
