Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to release an emergency relief fund package of Rs 10,000 crores. It is reported that the state has incurred a loss of up to Rs 21,609 crores due to the heavy rains in the last two months.

It is reported that the state has incurred a loss of up to Rs 21,609 crores due to the heavy rains in the last two months.

The letter was written to the Prime Minister a day after he assured to help the state and release funds immediately.

Expressing solidarity with people affected by torrential rains in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 16, spoke to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and assured him of all possible help from the Centre in rescue and relief works.

Meanwhile, on October 21, BS Yediyurappa conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in two districts in the state and said that additional funds would be released after holding discussions with the officials.

The survey was done to assess the extent of damage caused by the heavy rains in Kalaburagi Yadgir, Raichur, and Vijayapura districts.
