Karnataka: Not in a hurry to open schools, says Chief minister BS Yediyurappa

Speaking to reporters after holding a high-level meeting in Bengaluru with the officials regarding the Covid-19 preparations on Thursday, BS Yediyurappa has said "We are certainly not in a hurry to open school amid pandemic".

Bengaluru: As parental pressure on the state government is increasing each day, the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday said the state government was not in a hurry to open schools.

Speaking to reporters after holding a high-level meeting with the officials regarding the Covid-19 preparations, Yediyurappa said "the topic of opening schools did not figure in our discussions at all".

On being questioned if schools will open anytime soon BS Yediyurappa said, "We are certainly not in a hurry to open school amid pandemic".  

Karnataka Medical Education Minister, K Sudhakar had also reiterated that the state government was not in favour of opening schools in the present circumstances.

Earlier on Thursday, elected representatives had appealed to Yediyurappa not to open schools or colleges amid the pandemic.

JD(S) leader and former Karnataka chief minister, HD Kumaraswamy too had said the state government should not open schools.

"The pandemic is getting worse as the hours pass by. Under such circumstances why should the state government take risk of opening schools?" he questioned.

Meanwhile Congress leader and Former CM Siddaramaiah also suggested the government not to open schools at any cost this year and requested to pass students of all grades.
