Karnataka education minister Suresh Kumar tests positive for COVID-19

The Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar has tested positive for COVID-19. The minister is asymptomatic and is under home quarantine.


Bengaluru: Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar has tested positive for COVID-19.

The education minister tested positive on October 5 and made the announcement on his twitter handle the same evening.

Suresh Kumar shared the information writing “I have tested positive for COVID-19. Hence, I will be in home quarantine for a few days as per the advice of the physician. There is nothing to worry as I am asymptomatic.”

Suresh Kumar was one among the ministers who had attended the recent Assembly session.

 Many others who had attended the session tested positive including Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol, senior Congress leaders H K Patil and Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, another Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress state chief DK Shivakumar were among those who were found positive for coronavirus earlier and recovered.

Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, BJP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti and Basavakalyan Congress MLA B Narayan Rao had recently succumbed to the coronavirus infection.

As per the data available with the State’s Department of Health and Family Welfare, on October 3, there were 1,15,574 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka. The total tally stands at 6,40,661 cases and the death toll at 9,286.
