Bengaluru: Late IAS officer DK Ravi’s wife Kusuma on October 4 joined the Congress at the party office here.

Kusuma is likely to be the party’s candidate for RR Nagar bypolls.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar, former chief minister Siddaramaiah, former deputy chief minister Parameshwara were present in the party office when Kusuma was welcomed.

It is reported that the party has decided to field Kusuma, as she is Vokkaliga from the RR Nagara constituency.

Vokkaligas reportedly form a dominant vote bank in both the Assembly seats and the Congress is said to have taken the decision considering this equation.

Meanwhile, the Congress, on Sunday, announced its candidates for three of the four Legislative Council seats which will go for elections on October 28.

The selected candidates are Sharanappa Mattur, Praveen Peter, and RM Kuberappa. KPCC president DK Shivakumar gave the ‘B’ forms to the candidates on Sunday.

Sharnappa Mattur, whose term ended earlier this year, has been renamed the party candidate for the North East Teachers’ Constituency.
