I-Day gift from CM MK Stalin: Petrol to cost Rs 3 less in Tamil Nadu from tonight

As some relief to vehicle users, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to cut Rs 3 on petrol price. The decision was announced by finance minister Palanivel Thiagarajan on Friday while presenting the median budget. With this decision, the state will face a loss of exchequer about Rs 1,200 Cr annually. 
 

Call it a gift on Independence day or relief from soaring petrol prices to its people, the Tamil Nadu government will cut petrol price by Rs 3 per liter.

The decision was announced on Friday by Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagrajan while presenting his first budget.

It is said after consultation with CM MK Stalin, this land mark decision was taken to help the working class that depend on motor vehicles.

With the decision on slashing state taxes on petrol, the government will also be exposed to loss in exchequer of Rs 1,160 crore annually.

After the Centre kept increasing petrol rates, over 15 states and metro cities witnessed petrol prices crossing Rs 100. The public was inconvenienced and protests were held.

With the decision of slashing taxes on petrol, the DMK government also has gained upper hand against its rivals it earned public appreciation specially from its capital Chennai. With this decision, there may be pressure on governments in neighboring states too.

Singara Chennai is the highlight of finance minister's maiden budget:

The minister also has announced a special package to Chennai with Rs 500 crore under green initiative 'Singara Chennai 2.0'. Health, sanitation, environment, underground sewage system and other aspects will fall under 2.0 category. Total budget of Ra 2,371 crore is allocated for Chennai.
