While visiting Sarisha in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “I am neither a rubber-stamp nor a post office.”
The governor said that his biggest responsibility was to ensure free and fair assembly elections in the state. Significantly, the Sarisha area belongs to the Diamond Harbour parliamentary constituency, where BJP all-India president JP Nadda was attacked a few days ago. Even on Wednesday (December 16), on the occasion of the Governor's visit, neither the police nor the senior officials of the administration were seen to be present as per the protocol.

Jagdeep Dhankar was elected as the governor in July 2019. In 2018, the state panchayat election took place. Referring to the election, the governor said he had complete information about that election. At least 12 people lost their lives during the panchayat election. In many places, the TMC did not allow opposition candidates to submit their nomination.
On the same day, Jagdeep Dhankhar further said that the administration has merged with politics in West Bengal. He said that the administrative system must be neutralized. He also said that being politically neutral is the obligation of every government employee. The governor took the responsibility of neutralizing that administration.
Jagdeep Dhankar further said that under the direction of Mamata Banerjee, 20 retired police officers are working in various parts of the state. The police officers feel that they can't be held responsible for what they are doing.

Criticizing the state government, Dhankhar said, “Whatever is happening in Bengal is not happening anywhere in the country.”
Referring to the alleged attack on the JP Nadda’s convoy at Diamond Harbour on December 10, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said that the details of the incident he found out were "extremely worrying”.
Without naming anyone, he said, no one should think of themselves as the owner of the state. The Chief Minister is also under the rule of law. She must respect the law, she must respect the constitution.
