After leaving the TMC, the councilor and his wife said that they will not join any other political party immediately. However, speculation is growing that they will join the BJP after Amit Shah’s visit to Bengal.

The former councilor couple announced at a press conference at their home in Bolpur that they would break all this with the TMC. Like many other TMC leaders from different parts of Bengal, including Shuvendu Adhikari, they were not getting the respect they deserved in the party. They also pointed fingers at the TMC leadership in Bolpur for non-cooperation.

Arup Roy and Shelly Roy stated that they were not joining the BJP. They urged people not to believe in rumors.

Five years later, in 2015, his wife, Shelley Roy, became a councilor in the same ward. Arup Roy was recently removed from the post of councilor and made the co-ordinator of the municipality.

However, it is being speculated that the BJP is going to give a tough fight to the ruling TMC in the upcoming Bengal polls.
