Fathima Latheef suicide case: Chennai Police find no prima facie evidence against IIT professors

The Central Crime Branch officials came to the conclusion after questioning over 150 people. Police have questioned the staff of the hostel where Fathima Latheef stayed, her hostel mates, collegemates and professors. Police have also questioned Fathima's parents.  

Chennai: Central Crime Branch officials have concluded that there is no prima facie evidence against IIT Madras professors in the suicide case of Fathima Latheef. The police submitted their findings in a report to the state home department.

According to reports, the investigating officer confirmed that the IIT professors haven't committed any crime, after questioning over 150 people. The police have questioned the staff of the hostel where Fathima Latheef stayed, hostel mates, collegemates and professors. Police have also questioned Fathima's parents.

The development came 10 days after her father Abdul Latheef told media that Union minister Amit Shah had assured him that the CBI would investigate the case. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah have promised the family of the victim and members of parliament that CBI will investigate the suicide case of Fathima Latheef.

Fathima was a student of IIT Madras and had allegedly taken her own life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room on November 9.

She was a native of Kerala and was pursuing an integrated MA programme at the institute.
