Direct Delhi-Kolkata flights to run on all days

Synopsis

The Bengal government announced on Monday (December 14) that direct flights between Delhi and Kolkata will now be taking off every day.

Earlier, direct flights between Delhi and Kolkata were functional only three days a week to restrict movement of passengers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the restrictions on flights arriving from Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur and Ahmedabad would remain the same. Flights from these 5 states are allowed three days a week.

Kaushik Bhattacharya, the director of NSCBI airport, said, “there were no restrictions of flights departing from the NSCBI airport in Kolkata to Delhi. However, flights from Delhi and five other states which were marked as COVID hotspots were allowed only three days a week.”

The civil aviation ministry had earlier canceled flights to Kolkata from six cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur and Ahmedabad, at the request of the Bengal government.

During lockdown, no flights were allowed to take off or land at the NSCBI airport. Later, relaxations were given by the government with various guidelines and restrictions.
