A dozen students, which includes six girls, ended their lives depressed over their marks in Class X and Class XII examinations. These incidents took place in the last 48 hours, immediately after the state board declared the results on Saturday afternoon.
A brother-sister duo committed suicide by hanging themselves in their respective rooms, leaving their parents devastated. Another student, according to a report by the Deccan Chronicle, injected himself with a toxic substance because his score of 74.4% was much less than his expectation of 90%. Another student allegedly threw herself in front of a running train because she failed in the Class XII examinations. Meanwhile, MP Board of Secondary Education has opened a counselling centre to help students overcome depression, following poor results in examinations.
An officer in the centre said, "We have received more than 20,000 SOS calls from students who have either failed to clear their exams or could not fare well in the exams seeking advice how to deal with the situation, in the last 48 hours”.
