Coronavirus: Nuclear scientist, former Atomic Energy Commission chief Sekhar Basu dies of COVID-19

Kolkata: Dr Sekhar Basu, former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission and atomic scientist succumbed to COVID-19 early on Thursday (September 24).

He was awarded Padma Shri in 2014.

A mechanical engineer, Dr Basu is revered for his contributions to the country's atomic energy programme.
He had also pioneered the highly complex reactor for India's first nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant.
India's COVID-19 tally has crossed the 57-lakh mark with a spike of 86,508 new cases. 1,129 deaths on September 24.
The Health Ministry's latest update informed that the total case tally stands at 5,732,519 including 9,66,382 active cases, 46,74,988 cured/discharged/migrated and 91,149 deaths.
