Coronavirus: 17 MPs test positive for COVID-19 as Parliament monsoon session begins

 Over 15 MPs have tested positive for COVID-19 in the mandatory tests that were conducted before the beginning of the monsoon session


New Delhi: Lok Sabha members have tested positive for coronavirus in the mandatory tests carried out before the monsoon session of parliament. According to reports, the 17 MPs are 12 from BJP, YSR Congress has two MPs, the Shiv Sena, DMK and RLP one each.

The report added that the MPs tested positive on September 13 and 14.

Around 200 of the 785 MPs are above the age of 65 years and are among the population vulnerable to coronavirus. 

BJP's Sukanta Majumdar who tested positive for coronavirus, tweeted, "Requesting all those who have come in close contact with me in the last few days to monitor their health and get tested in case of any symptoms."

The Monsoon session 2020 of Parliament commenced on Monday.

This will be the first Parliament session being held amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

 India registered 92,071 new COVID cases and 1,136 deaths in the last 24 hours pushing the country's caseload to cross the 48-lakh mark. The total case tally stands at 48,46,428 and death toll is at 79,722.
