Bengaluru Railway platform tickets to cost Rs 50

South Western Railway increased the price of platform tickets to avoid crowding. Ticket price has increased from Rs 10 to Rs 50. 7 pairs of special trains will operate from the Bengaluru division.

Bengaluru: In view of a spike in COVID-19 cases the South Western Railway on Thursday increased the price of platform tickets.

The price of the platform tickets has been increased by 400 percent by the SWR saying that the move will prevent crowding on railway platforms.

The ticket price has been raised from 10 to 50 rupees at select railway stations.

In a press release by the SWR, it is said that the ticket price has only been temporarily increased.

The new rates will apply to Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station, Bengaluru Cantonment and Yeshwantpur railway stations.

The South Western Railway stated that there is a need to restrict the entry of visitors at the platforms to decongest the platforms. “This will also help in containing the spread of COVID-19,” the press release read.

Adding to this, as many as seven pairs of train services are slated to start operations from the Bengaluru division from September 12. This is in addition to the special train services already in operation.

The Indian Railways is also going to operate 80 new special trains from September 12. The reservations for these special trains will begin from September 10.
