Bengaluru: Bhaskar Rao, Bengaluru’s lovable cop, may be replaced after completing his one year term as the city police commissioner, on August 2.

Rao's term as police chief will be etched in Bengalureans’ minds as he was in office during one of the most difficult times with the city witnessing a rise in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

He is likely to be replaced by Kamal Pant who happens to be his Indian Police Service (IPS) 1990 batchmate at Sardar Vallabhai Patel Academy in Hyderabad.

As per sources, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), State Intelligence, Pant was tipped to replace Rao in March itself but it did not happen due to the lockdown.

As per reports, apart from the commissioner, some other officers in the city are likely to be transferred as CID chief NS Megharikh of the 1987 IPS batch will demit office and will retire on July 31.
