BBMP seeks government clarification on usage of masks for solo motorists

Synopsis

The BBMP on Thursday has sought clarification on the use of masks for solo motorists for the second time because of public criticism. A letter was addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) by BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad seeking clarity on the same.

Bengaluru: After the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued Covid-19 guidelines specifying mandatory usage of masks for solo motorists, the civic body is now confused whether it is necessary.

On Thursday, the BBMP sought clarification on the same for the second time because of public criticism.

In a letter addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad sought clarification on two aspects:

1) Whether a person driving alone in a four-wheeler with the window glasses closed should wear a mask?

2) Whether a single rider in a two-wheeler without a pillion rider should wear a mask while driving?

In the letter Manjunath Prasad mentioned that there has been concerns raised by the various citizen groups as well as the media regarding these aspects.

Further noting that the rules, issued on Tuesday, were based on suggestions by a technical advisory committee, and directives from the Centre as well of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Health and Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar stated on Wednesday that it is not necessary for solo motorists to wear masks inside a car and would address the issue to the BBMP Commissioner.
