Monsoon covers entire state; Karnataka to expect heavy showers in coming days

Rainfall was recorded at most places over coastal Karnataka and at isolated places in interior Karnataka on Friday. Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi recorded amounts of heavy rainfall in the areas.
 


Bengaluru: The monsoon on Friday covered the entire state of Karnataka including Bengaluru on Friday. The monsoon hit the region two weeks after it touched Kerala’s coast and one week after it reached Karnataka. Reports state that heavy rains are to be expected in the region over the next few days.

According to reports, SSM Gavaskar, scientist, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) said that heavy rainfall warning has been issued to Bagalkot, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Raichur and Yadgir districts in north interior Karnataka. He also said that they had been analysing monsoon every year and that such a delay in monsoon had not been experienced in recent years.

The meteorological department has reportedly predicted cloudy sky weather with light rain in Bengaluru. Reports state that surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty at times. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31°C and 21°C.

The southwest monsoon had advanced in coastal, Malnad and northern parts of Karnataka on Thursday.

Monsoon that usually hits Karnataka by June 10 is late by around ten days this year. According to reports, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the monsoon rains are set to extend to parts of Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Due to delay in the arrival of the monsoon and the onset of Cyclone Vayu, the overall deficit of monsoon rains is 41% so far this year, reports said.
