A traffic police report stated that 477 people lost their lives between January 1 and April 30 of 2019. 2,791 people sustained injuries in 1,576 accident cases. Out of the 477 deaths, 197 deaths were reported from the east division.
Bengaluru: According to a report provided by Bengaluru Traffic Police, the number of road accidents has decreased in the city. Officials have attributed this to the improving road conditions and safety infrastructure.
The data recorded for the first four months of the year showed that only one person died in the first eight hours of the day.
The data also showed that highest number of accident victims were two-wheeler motorists.
The number of head injuries has also reduced after the implementation of the mandatory helmet rule in the state.
According to a TOI report, in 2018, there were 4,611 accidents compared to 5,064 in 2017 in the city.
The report also says that 477 people lost their lives between January 1 and April 30, while 2,791 sustained injuries in 1,576 accident cases. Out of the 477 deaths, 197 deaths were reported from the east division. This division is the one amongst the largest in Bengaluru with 21 police stations. The west division has 18 stations and 171 deaths were reported. The north comprises five stations and 114 deaths were reported in the division.
A traffic police official told media that they are trying their best to further bring down the number of accidents in the city and expressed confidence that officials will be able to do so.
The official also appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and to consistently check for the speed limit in the area to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
