The 100 pairs of jute shoes were sent from Delhi. Divisional Commissioner Deepak Agarwal on Sunday distributed the jute footwear among priests, sevadars, CRPF jawans, policemen and sanitation workers working in the temple. More jute footwear will be distributed to those performing duties.
The Prime Minister had on December 13 inaugurates redeveloped project worth Rs 339 crore in Varanasi. The first phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, spread over five lakh square feet, connects the temple premises to the River Ganga besides providing several facilities to devotees. The Kashi Vishwanath Dham temple area, which was only 3000 square feet earlier, is now spread to about five lakh square feet. It is estimated that the temple premises can now accommodate somewhere between 50,000-75,000 devotees.
