IMD Issues Rain Alerts Across Maharashtra

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall across Maharashtra for the next three days, with varying levels of weather warnings issued for different regions.

Mumbai, Thane and Palghar remain under a Yellow Alert on Tuesday, while the Konkan districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have been placed under an Orange Alert due to the likelihood of heavier rainfall.

In Vidarbha, Akola, Buldhana and Washim are expected to experience largely dry weather. However, Amaravati is likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in Nagpur, Gondia, Wardha, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal, all of which are under a Yellow Alert.

Marathwada districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli and Nanded are also expected to witness thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rainfall.

Farmers Face Fresh Challenges as Rainfall Remains Uneven

Erratic rainfall has created difficulties for farmers in several parts of Maharashtra, especially in the Vidarbha region.

Although the Agriculture Department had advised farmers to begin sowing only after receiving at least 100 mm of rainfall, many cultivators in Kuhi, Bhiwapur and Umred talukas of Nagpur district started sowing after rainfall in the third week of June.

With rains weakening soon after, crops such as cotton and soybean have been affected, forcing many farmers to undertake re-sowing. The additional expense has resulted in significant financial losses for cultivators already dealing with an uncertain monsoon.

Urban Waterlogging Raises Questions as Hingoli Awaits Better Rain

Moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of Nagpur on Monday evening led to waterlogging across several areas, exposing shortcomings in the city's pre-monsoon drainage preparations. Even the Municipal Corporation premises in Civil Lines remained waterlogged for a considerable period, prompting residents to question the effectiveness of civic measures.

Meanwhile, Hingoli district continues to experience the effects of an uneven monsoon. The influence of El Niño has delayed normal seasonal rainfall, postponing Kharif sowing in many areas. Although recent showers have encouraged some farmers to begin fieldwork, the district is still awaiting consistent rainfall for the agricultural season to progress smoothly.
