Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Tamil Nadu

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai, has warned of heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu on June 30 and July 1 due to a low-pressure circulation stretching from the north Tamil Nadu coast to the Kanyakumari Sea. The weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Residents have been advised to stay updated with weather bulletins, especially in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Districts Likely to Receive Intense Showers

According to the forecast, hilly regions of Coimbatore and Nilgiris are expected to experience heavy rain along with thunderstorms and strong winds on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, heavy rainfall is likely in the hill areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, as well as parts of Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Erode and Salem districts. Localised downpours may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, while strong winds could affect normal activities.

High Temperatures Continue; Fishermen Receive Warning

Even as rain is expected in several districts, temperatures remained high across parts of Tamil Nadu. Cuddalore recorded the highest maximum temperature at 102.2°F, followed by Vellore (102.02°F), Puducherry (100.76°F), Tiruttani (100.58°F), Chennai-Meenambakkam and Nagapattinam (100.4°F each), Chennai-Nungambakkam (100.22°F), and Parangipettai (100.04°F).

The weather department has also warned of squally winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph over the south Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar and the Kanyakumari Sea. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into these waters until conditions improve.
