Kolkata Weather LATEST Update: A monsoon trough and a low-pressure system are teaming up to bring heavy rains across West Bengal. The Met Department has issued a forecast for heavy showers and thunderstorms in multiple districts

A monsoon trough and low-pressure system have been causing heavy rains for a few days now. While South Bengal got rain earlier, North Bengal is seeing more showers today. The downpour in South Bengal also picked up since Wednesday afternoon, leading to waterlogging in several areas. The Met office says the rain will only get heavier.

Depression

According to the Met Department, a monsoon trough is currently stretching all the way from Bikaner in Rajasthan to Manipur in the Northeast, passing through Delhi, Lucknow, and Patna. On top of that, a low-pressure trough is active from Rajasthan to Northeast Bihar, making the weather system stronger.

Rainfall

These weather systems are causing the rainfall to intensify. As a result, almost all districts, from North Bengal to South Bengal, are likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Kolkata Weather

The weather office has confirmed that the rain will increase in Kolkata and its surrounding districts this Thursday. A heavy rainfall warning is in place for Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, West Medinipur, and Jhargram.

Rain For North Bengal

The weather office has predicted rain for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar today. Other districts will likely see light to moderate showers, along with gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
