Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Alert Across Karnataka

Karnataka has been experiencing intense pre-monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall across the state until May 25. The rainfall is expected to be particularly heavy in South Interior Karnataka and the Malnad region.

Districts including Davanagere, Mandya and Bengaluru are likely to receive moderate to heavy showers over the next few days. Authorities have also issued a red alert in some regions due to the possibility of thunderstorms and wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph. Officials fear the strong winds may uproot trees and disrupt electricity supply in vulnerable areas.

Tumakuru Records Highest Rainfall, Bengaluru Under Yellow Alert

Tumakuru district has recorded the highest rainfall in Karnataka over the past 24 hours, according to data released by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. The sudden weather change has drawn attention as several parts of the state continue to witness unpredictable rain patterns.

While mornings remain sunny and humid, dark clouds quickly gather by afternoon, leading to evening downpours and thunderstorms. Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts have now been placed under a yellow alert, with the weather department predicting increased rainfall and gusty winds over the next three days.

The sudden showers are also causing traffic congestion and inconvenience for commuters across the city, especially during peak evening hours.

Safety Measures Issued Amid Thunderstorm and Lightning Risk

With lightning and thunderstorm activity expected to increase, officials have advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.

People have been urged to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid standing near trees or electric poles. Drivers are advised to slow down as wet roads and poor visibility may increase accident risks.

Authorities have also recommended unplugging electronic appliances such as televisions and refrigerators during lightning activity to prevent electrical damage and ensure safety at home.
