Bengaluru and Several Districts Under Rain Alert

The India Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rainfall across Karnataka till May 25 due to intensified pre-monsoon activity and disturbed weather conditions over the Arabian Sea. Bengaluru has been placed under a yellow alert for the next three days after heavy showers and hailstorms lashed parts of the city on Thursday evening, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Heavy rain is also expected in Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi and Bidar districts. Meanwhile, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Koppal and Gadag districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall over the coming days.

Strong Winds and Thunderstorms Expected Across Karnataka

The weather department has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds in several coastal and interior districts. On May 23, districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are likely to receive rainfall at isolated places.

In North Interior Karnataka, districts such as Raichur, Koppal, Gadag and Bagalkot may witness winds blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 kmph along with moderate rain. Southern interior districts including Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Bengaluru, Hassan, Ramanagara, Kolar and Chikkaballapur are also expected to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds.

Rainfall activity is expected to continue on May 24 as well, affecting coastal districts and several southern and northern interior regions including Mysuru, Shivamogga, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Davanagere.

Roof Collapse Claims Woman’s Life in Vijayapura

Amid continuous rainfall, a tragic incident was reported from Nidagundi town in Vijayapura district. A 56-year-old woman, Mahadevi Shivanand Wadar, died after the mud roof of her old house collapsed near the Gaurishwar Temple area early Thursday morning.

According to reports, the roof had weakened after recent rains. Mahadevi was asleep inside the house when the roof caved in. Her husband, Shivanand, survived as he was sleeping outside the house at the time of the incident.

The weather department has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea till May 25 due to unstable sea conditions. Bengaluru is expected to witness partly cloudy skies with intermittent evening showers over the next 48 hours, with temperatures ranging between 22 and 33 degrees Celsius.
