The Reference Date
The 7th Pay Commission's recommendations were effective from the reference date of January 1, 2016. Similarly, the 8th Pay Commission has also set January 1, 2026, as the reference date for revised salaries.
The 7th Pay Commission had a fitment factor of 2.57. While the 8th Pay Commission's factor isn't final yet, experts predict it could be anywhere between 1.92 and 2.86. Some central government sources estimate it to be closer to the 2.28-2.46 range.

Dearness Allowance (DA) Calculation
Currently, under the 7th Pay Commission's structure, the Dearness Allowance (DA) has reached 60%. It is expected that once the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, the DA will be reset to zero. The old DA will likely be merged into the basic pay.
