Earlier this month, pop sensation Shakira and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique stunned fans with the announcement of their separation after 11 years of relationship. The couple, who have two children together, instantly hit the headlines with reports suggesting the Spanish footballer cheated on the Colombian singer, which led to their separation.

The Barcelona defender and the singer from Barranquilla were lauded as one of the strongest couples in the entertainment world. Though the couple were not married, fans dreamed of seeing them together for much longer. And now, reports suggest that the real reason behind the separation was not due to Pique's infidelity, but money became a factor in the rift between the couple.

Speaking with Spanish media EsDiario, Roberto Garcia, who dated one of Shakira's sisters, revealed that the separation between the singer and Pique was due to money. In the interview, he stated that the couple appeared to have a perfect relationship, but in reality, the problems between them began months ago, and the real reason was merely economic.
Garcia claimed that Pique once requested a sizable sum of cash from the Colombian singer to invest in other ventures, but Shakira turned him down since her parents disagreed—and they are the ones who have the last word on her financial situation. From that moment, the relationship fractured and began with constant fights that separated them.
"According to what a person close to them told me, there has been an economic problem between the two. Supposedly, Piqué would have asked Shakira for money for an investment issue, and the singer's family has refused to give it to him. They don't mix their money, and they keep the family economy at 50%", said Roberto Garcia.
Furthermore, he emphasised that the popular singer had always known that her relationship with the soccer player would never transcend the marital plane because, allegedly, she would have fixed on him to be the father of her children. "Shakira fixed on Piqué because she liked him to be the father of her children. She knew she would never marry him," he added.

Earlier, reports had stated that Shakira learnt about Pique's alleged infidelity after hiring private detectives to investigate the footballer's movements. Journalists Laura Fa and Lorena Vazquez, who unveiled the love scandal first, claimed that La Traviesa, a famous nightclub in Barcelona, was reported to be the reunion spot between Pique and the woman.
According to the journalists, Pique's alleged new girlfriend deleted her social media accounts, and sources close to the duo confirmed she had more than 300 posts on Instagram. "She's 22 years old, she's blonde, she's a student and an event model," they claimed earlier.
