In a major setback for the Congress ahead of the assembly elections in Kerala, senior Congress leader and four-time Member of Parliament P C Chacko has announced his resignation from the party.

Chacko was seemingly unhappy over the party's decision not to give him a seat. Addressing media persons after sending his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Chacko said the party ignored him.

There is no Congress party in Kerala. There are only two groups who divide seats among them.

Claiming that the party did not discuss ticket distribution, Chacko said that the list prepared by Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala was accepted without question.

Chacko said that the party is weak nationally.

"There is no democracy in the high command. Groupism in Kerala has the blessings of the high command," he said.
