
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday (August 6) confirmed that Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Vivo will not be the title sponsor of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020).
In a one-line media advisory, not signed by any BCCI/IPL official, the Indian cricket board said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and vivo Mobile India Pvt Ltd have decided to suspend their partnership for Indian Premier League in 2020.”

IPL 2020 will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19 to November 10 in three venues, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. Now, the Indian cricket board will have to find a new title sponsor.

After the IPL Governing Council (GC) meeting on Sunday (August 2), the BCCI faced a severe backlash on social media for retaining Vivo as IPL title sponsor amid the tensions between India and China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Vivo had signed a five-year deal with the BCCI for Rs 2,199 crore. They pay Rs 440 crore each year.
