The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be one of the most highly watched matches in the tournament. With the tournament scheduled to run from 19 February to 9 March 2025, an IANS report quoting sources stated that the historic encounter between the two cricketing giants will take place on 23 February 2025, at a neutral venue.

Given the political tensions between the two nations, the match will not be played in Pakistan. Instead, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly looking at Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Dubai (UAE) as potential locations for the match. While the tournament itself will be hosted in Pakistan across three major cities—Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Lahore—India’s matches, including the high-profile encounter with Pakistan, will be played outside the host nation.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will feature eight teams: Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, and South Africa. These teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy is expected to be a marquee event, especially given the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan. Since their last bilateral series in 2012-13, both teams have only faced each other in ICC tournaments, and this match will undoubtedly attract immense attention worldwide. Despite being played at a neutral venue, the India vs Pakistan clash is expected to be a box-office spectacle, with millions of fans tuning in to witness the rivalry unfold on the global stage.
In a related development, the hybrid model for ICC events has also been confirmed, with Pakistan teams not traveling to India for the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, or the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, both of which will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka. This arrangement underscores the ongoing challenges in the bilateral cricketing relationship between the two nations, with ICC events providing the only platform for their teams to compete.
