Bengaluru: Former India paceman Ashish Nehra has said he disagrees with captain Virat Kohli’s statements on the relevance of ODIs in the year 2020 when T20 World Cup will be played.
“ODIs aren’t too relevant this year compared to Tests and T20s, but to find people who can play that way under pressure is a big revelation for us and a big plus,” Kohli had said during the team’s tour to New Zealand earlier this year.

In New Zealand, India were whitewashed 0-3 by the hosts in ODIs and also were clean swept 0-2 in the Test rubber.
Speaking on former India batsman-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel, Nehra disagreed with his former teammate Kohli.

“I don’t agree with it. If you say that after winning the series then it’s different. I feel it’s wrong to say it is T20 year and the 50-over format doesn’t matter. If it doesn’t matter then why are you playing it? Are you telling me that the Indian team didn’t try to win those matches against New Zealand?,” Nehra told Chopra when asked about Kohli’s comments.
Nehra and Kohli are both from Delhi. They have worked together in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when Nehra was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) bowling coach.
ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in Australia later this year. However, there is uncertainty over the hosting of the tournament due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. All sports activities have been suspended around the world due to the virus.
