The presidential candidate of NDA, Ramnath Kovind visited Hyderabad on his propagation of candidature. In this instance, the YCP leader Jaganmohan Reddy respectfully touched the feet of Kovind. This became a point of discussion in the political circle. Whereas this was an unforgettable experience for Kovind. A powerful leader of the south, Jaganmohan Reddy touched the feet of a Dalit leader Kovind, and he was impressed.
Kovind landed in Hyderabad on July 4 and stayed in a five star hotel. He met with the YCP representatives. YCP leader Jagan first welcomed him with a bouquet, and then honoured him with a shawl. Then surprising everyone Jagan touched the feet of Kovind as a mark of respect.
Generally, such expressions can be expected from KCR as once he touched the feet of President Pranab Mukherjee and took his blessings. Not only that, he regularly touches the feet of Governor Narsimhan and takes his blessings. Long time before he also touched the feet of Professor Jai Shankar. When he was in UPA government, he used to touch the feet of Sonia Gandhi and took blessings for Telangana.
Earlier we saw Chief Ministers’ (NTR) feet being touched to receive blessings but none of the chief ministers publicly touched anyone’s feet. In the same way no leaders in high positions have done this.
There is nothing wrong with Jagan touching the feet of Kovind. Jagan might be around the age of Kovind’s grandson or youngest son. We might consider that he acted in such a way to receive the blessings of the elders. However, in the past, there was never an occasion where he touched any elder’s feet and took blessings. He met President Pranab Mukherjee many times. But no news had come out that Jagan touched his feet. In the same way he met PM Modi, but he never touched his feet. This shows that Jagan does not have the habit of touching elders feet. Even when Jagan became an MP for the first time, there was no news that he touched the feet of Sonia Gandhi.
That’s the reason his action of touching NDA’s Presidential candidate Ramnath Kovind’s feet is a bit out of place. It became a point of discussion. After Jagan’s mark of respect to Kovind, when Venkaiah Naidu and others were seated on the dais Rajya Sabha member Vijaysai Reddy also respectfully touched the feet of Kovind.
Every small gift in politics is symbolic to political gains. There’s nothing in politics that is done without any other motive. This is a political language. Nothing happens in politics apart from politics. Does Jagan need this that much?
