The most controversial and diversified politician of Andhra Pradesh Ganta Srinivasa Rao finally decided to shift his district for the next election. Ganta belonged to Visakhapatnam district but for every election, he has chosen to contest from a different constituency. It is indeed surprising to see preference given to his fancies when lakhs of trusted workers would not even have their names considered for the elections.
Another surprising fact is that Ganta wins in every constituency he contests. His present represented constituency Bhimili is his fourth one. His first constituency where he contested and won the election for Parliament was from Anakapalli. Then from Chodavaram constituency as MLA, third from Anakapalli for Assembly and at present he is MLA of Bhimili constituency.
His distinct quality was that he never was elected from the same party. He keeps jumping from one political party to other. He was a TDP leader, then switched over to Prajarajyam, from which to Congress and just before the last election, he again jumped back to TDP. No one is sure of his next party until the last minute.
The reason for his change of district for the next election was that he considered Visakhapatnam not safe enough for his next election. There are 15 constituencies in Visakhapatnam district, out of which three are reserved constituencies and Ganta contested from three. Out of the remaining nine constituencies, none were considered safe for him and so he decided to change to the neighbouring district of Vijayanagaram.
He identified the safe constituencies as Nellimarla and Bhogapuram in Vijayanagaram district. Ganta usually chooses constituencies with many villages as the rural areas are dominated by caste, class and group politics.
It is said Ganta is wealthy enough to buy the village influential heads and that would make his win safe and easy. But though he is all set with the constituency of his choice for the next election, he is yet to decide on the party from which to contest, TDP or Jana Sena or YCP?
