'Infected' Donald Trump steps out on to the streets to meet 'patriots'
US President Donald Trump openly flouted quarantine norms as he stepped out of the Walter Reed hospital where he is undergoing treatment for coronavirus to thank his supporters.
Washington DC: US President Donald Trump broke quarantine to surprise his supporters who had gathered outside the Walter Reed military hospital.
Currently undergoing treatment for coronavirus, the US President ignored safety norms to greet his supporters whom he called 'patriots'.Â
Before stepping out of the hospital, Trump posted this video in which he claims to have also interacted with soldiers and first responders while undergoing treatment.
Trump's 'drive-by' has come under intense criticism from medical experts and his political rivals. Some even calling the act insane.  Â
Dr James P Phillips, who is an attending doctor at the Walter Reed hospital, called Trump's anctics as 'insanity'.
"Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential drive-by just now has to be quarantined for 14 days. They might get sick. They may die. For political theater. Commanded by Trump to put their lives at risk for theater. This is insanity," Dr James said.Â
"That Presidential SUV is not only bulletproof, but hermetically sealed against chemical attack. The risk of COVID-19 transmission inside is as high as it gets outside of medical procedures. The irresponsibility is astounding. My thoughts are with the Secret Service forced to play," he added.
