Maharashtra's new Covid restrictions: Here is what stays shut and what is exempted

Starting today, Maharashtra will adopt tighter restrictions till April 30 in an attempt to break the chain of rising coronavirus cases in the state.

Besides, announcing night curfew from 8 pm to 7 am on all days, the state government has announced weekend lockdown from 8 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday.

The tighter restrictions were necessitated after over 57,000 positive cases were reported from Maharashtra. Mumbai alone reported 11,163 new Covid-19 cases and 25 deaths on Sunday.

* Gathering of over 5 people (7 am to 8 pm)

* Hotels, bars and restaurants

* Shopping malls

* Private offices

* Saloons and spas

* Cinema theatres, multiplexes and auditoriums

* Video parlours and clubs

* Sports complexes and swimming pools

* Amusement and water parks

What's exempted

* Essential services like hospitals and pharmaceuticals

* Essential utilities like electricity and water supply offices

* Public transport system (50% sitting capacity)

* Government offices (50% staff strength) 

* Banks and insurance companies

* Printing and distribution of newspapers

* Take-aways and parcels from restaurants

* Vegetable markets
