Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation of a forensic sciences institute in Lucknow on Sunday. The institute, which would operate under the ministry of home affairs, is proposed to be affiliated to Gujarat-based National Forensics Sciences University (NFSU).

The UP State Forensic Science Institute will be the centre of excellence in the field of scientific crime investigation with modern facilities and technology. This institute, being set up with the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will set the best standards of study, education, research, and training. This institute will act as a resource centre in the field of forensic science, behavioural science, civil and crime law by becoming a pool of trained manpower.

The Home Minister was in the state to launch various projects.

Addressing a function after laying the foundation stone of the UP State Institute of Forensic Sciences here, Shah heaped praise on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for taking the state to the top spot in terms of law and order.

“The BJP governments do not work on the basis of caste, families, or for the people who are close to them. The BJP governments work for the development of the poorest person and to revamp law and order,” Shah said.

"For six years till 2019, I travelled a lot in UP. Hence, I know the earlier UP very well. Today in 2021, I can say with pride that Yogi Adityanath and his team have taken UP to the top spot in terms of law and order," he said.

Amit Shah said the first-of-its-kind institution, which is estimated to cost Rs 200 crore, would pave the way for research and modernisation of policing in the country. A centre for excellence for DNA would come up on a five acre land at the forensic sciences institute’s campus in collaboration with the NFSU.
