A decision on whether or not Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams will be conducted as scheduled on May 4 is likely to emerge on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and key officials to decide on holding the CBSE examinations.

There has been a demand from leaders across the political spectrum and parents of students that board exams can be cancelled or deferred in the wake of an alarming surge in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country.

The CBSE had in December rescheduled the Class 10 and 12 board exams to May 2021, stating that any further delay in holding the examinations would have a bearing on the college admissions.

But with the Covid-19 cases across the country mounting every day, the CBSE may be forced to do a rethink.

Many state boards have already postponed their examinations in the wake of the pandemic.

According to Education ministry officials, the government has no plans to cancel the examinations and that a final decision will be known in the review meeting.
