Private and RTC bus services exploit festive season services

The two Telugu States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have begun looting in the form of increased bus fare during the festival season of Dasara. This has become an ongoing tradition since a few years ago with the government doing nothing to curtail this daylight robbery.

The government RTC (Road Transport Service) is charging 50 per cent extra on the ticket fare while the private operators are charging 200 to 300 per cent above regular fare.

For example a Bengaluru-Vijayawada AC bus ticket in ordinary days is Rs 1300 and now increased to Rs 3,000. Vijayawada-Hyderabad AC bus fare which was Rs 600 is increased to Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 according to demand.

AP capital has been shifted to Amaravathi and the employees getting holidays from September 27th to 2nd October and private institutions holidays starting from 19th. Both prefer private services and so demand for tickets increased on 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 27th.  The private services increased the fares immensely.

Since RTC completed its regular booking, it is booking tickets under special booking with 50 per cent fare increase. 10 buses to Kadapa, 17 Kurnoool, 8 to Anantapur, 8 to Pulivendula, 8 to Proddutur with an additional 70 special buses are being run by the RTC. Reservation for all these buses have finished.
