Every festival has uniqueness with different folk characters mesmerising the people with their authentic and entertaining art. Now, many folk art forms are on the verge of extinction and one such Telugu folk art form is ‘Pittala Dora’ or the story teller who visits houses during the auspicious occasion of Dasara in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The origin of the art form cannot be traced but the visit of a Pittala Dora enthralls the whole community. He is a welcome guest of dawn with his outfit and humorous narration. He is usually clad in Khakis with a cap on his head with a toy or defunct rifle resembling a Britisher.

He weans unbelievable stories mostly bordering on wild fantasies and his narration seem as if they are from their own life experiences. But sadly the advent of modern technology which brought down many an art form has also been a cause for the almost extinction of Pittala Doralu.

Pittala Doralu are mostly agricultural workers who visit cities during Dasara festival for a few bucks. In the past these Pittala Doralu would exist in every village but now they are few and far in between.  

But this extinction art form has been caught on camera and posted on social media. The narration of a young Pittala Dora has been recorded for the current generation and has become viral.
