OMG! Monkey playing video games? Elon Musk's Neuralink shows something like that (Watch)
Elon Musk's new uploaded video on Twitter featuring a monkey playing video games has gone viral.
Elon Musk's new startup, Neuralink, is an implantable brain machine that interludes to connect human brain cells to computers. In the video, we can see Pager, a 9-year old macaque monkey who had a Neuralink implanted six weeks ago.
He was playing Ping-Pong. At first, he was taught to play with a joystick and eventually, it was removed only to let him play using his mind. The Neuralink's statement said, "We are pleased to reveal the Link's capability to enable a macaque monkey, named Pager, to move a cursor on a computer screen with neural activity using a 1,024 electrode fully-implanted neural recording and data transmission device."Â
They further revealed, "We can go further than simply predicting the most likely intended movement given the current pattern of brain activity: we can use these predictions to control, in real time, the movements of a computer cursor, or in the video, a MindPong paddle."Â
Taking to Elon's Twitter handle, he shared the youtube link with a caption. He wrote, "Monkey plays Pong with his mind."
Since its upload, netizens have gone crazy. One of the users commented, "We don't even know what we're going to achieve with technology in a few years, I'm so exited!!" While, another one wrote, "This is insane."
In another tweet, Elon mentioned that the first Neuralink product would provide "someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs." Â
