The JioPhone was yet another aggressive move from Reliance Jio. Reliance announced its new JioPhone, feature phones that will be available to users for free. It is accompanied by some really lucrative data plans. But, you have to cough up a fully refundable deposit of Rs 1500. The deposit will be returned only after three years.
Users will pay Rs 500 while pre-booking the device and the rest Rs 1000 on the time of delivery or when they collect the device, reports The Indian Express. Now, you cannot return the device before three years to get the refundable deposit. And, there are several other terms and conditions too.
To begin with, the phone cannot be tampered with, so no jail breaking or rooting or so on. This means, you have to keep the phone in good condition for three years, if you intend to get back the deposit, the report adds.
However, the company has something called 'early Return Charges', which means if you return the phones within 12 months, then you will be charged Rs 1500 and also the applicable GST. If you return the device between 12 and 24 months, then Jio will deduct Rs 1000. And, if you return the device between 2 to 3 years, then expect to lose Rs 500 plus taxes.
Also, one has to remember that the Jio device is SIM-locked. This means, you won't be able to use it with any other SIM.
