Has lockdown made older generation tech-savvy? Know here
Covid-19 may have given us a lot of negative impacts, but there have been some good aspects as well.
Older people have become much more adapted to technological apps, including Zoom, WhatsApp, Duo and Facetime, in this tough time to stay connected with their close ones. Covid-19 has opened a vast tech world to these people.
Social distancing has brought these older people to use social media platforms to connect with friends and families or even learn new things, as the study says.
Research says that to help deal with loneliness or isolation, social media apps have been helping older people a lot. "Those who engaged in such activity were able to prevent high levels of loneliness, therefore, helping older adults to increase their digital literacy and use of remote social interactions could be a really important tool for loneliness," said a researcher.
As per the survey for the research, among 1429 participants, 84% (1198) were above 60. Some said their religious meetings were shifted to online, and some responded that their family time has changed into 'online game nights'.
The research study explored how social distancing, isolation has impacted loneliness in older people.
