Soumen Malik and Ganga Malik came to know about the death of their only son Amitabh Malik in 'Breaking News' which appeared on the television screen three years ago on an October evening. And three years later, again on an evening of October, they heard on 'Breaking News' that Bimal Gurung was leaving the BJP and holding the hand of the Trinamool.

In June 2016, people of Darjeeling got furious after renewed demand for a separate Gorkhaland state. An arrest warrant was issued against Bimal Gurung.

In October 2016, the police went in search of Gurung in the Sirubari area of the Singlar forest on the banks of the Rangita river in Darjeeling. According to sources, Bimal Gurung was hiding in that place. Allegedly, Gurung's loyal forces attacked the police. Amitabh was shot dead by them.

After a dramatic appearance on Wednesday (October 21) after a three-year hiatus, Gurung claimed, "I am not a criminal. I am not a traitor either.”

On hearing this statement, Amitabh's father, Soumen Malik, a resident of Saratkanan in Patuli, Madhyamgram, asked, '' Then who is the real killer? Who killed my son?”

Amitabh’s father still laments over the death of his only son. The people of Madhyamgram have still not forgotten the death of Amitabh. Everyone wants severe punishment of Bimal Gurung.

The health condition of Amitabh’s parents has deteriorated. Soumen Malik was working in an export-import factory at Kharibari in North 24 Parganas. But that job has gone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Soumen Malik said, “If Gurung, the main accused in the murder of my son is not punished, our suffering will increase. I think that if such a situation continues, it will be difficult for us to survive.”
