Krishnanagar Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra kicked up a controversy after he entered a counting centre at Ranaghat college in Nadia where the counting of ballots for Santipur by-election polls was underway. 

The BJP alleged that Moitra, who didn't have the jurisdiction to enter the centre with personal bodyguards, made the move to influence the counting personnel. But the MP refuted the allegation saying that she didn't possess any personal security cover.

Counting of ballots for the bypoll to Haryana’s Ellenabad Assembly constituency began on Tuesday amidst tight security, an election official said. Over 81 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the October 30 election. The counting centre has been set up at Dr Ambedkar Law Bhawan of Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa. The results are expected by noon.

In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress will be hoping to emerge victorious on all four seats - Khardaha, Gosaba, Dinhata and Santipur. Of the four, Dinhata and Santipur were earlier held by the BJP.

Dinhata reported 69.97% voter turnout while Santipur polled 76.14% votes. Dinhata, which falls under the Cooch Behar district, is biggest in terms of number of voters (2.98 lakh) and number of booth (417) among the four constituencies.
