The film is about King Dushyanta and Shakuntala, daughter of sage Vishwamitra and apsara Menaka. Samantha and Malayalam actor Dev Mohan and Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha will play the major role.

In an interview with fashion magazine JFW, she gave some bold answers. One of the questions was on her preference — food or sex. The actress said that she could starve any day and she prefers sex over food. The actress is married to actor Naga Chaitanya, in 2017.
When probed further, she said, “Yes the date has been fixed. But we have definitely fixed the timeline as to when we want to have a baby.” She further goes on to say, ”When I have a baby, that child will be my universe.”
On the work front, apart from Shaakuntalam, Samantha also has Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal with Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. Directed by Vignesh Shivan, the rom-com will release later this year.
