Woman’s ‘Unhygienic’ London Tube Video Sparks Debate

Synopsis

A travel YouTuber named Meharma sparked social media outrage with a viral video criticizing London's sanitation and lifestyle. Her video contrasts the idealized image many South Asians have of the city with footage of garbage and unpleasant conditions on public transport, drawing mixed reactions online.

A travel YouTuber sparked outrage on social media after posting a video criticising London's sanitation and lifestyle. The Instagram video combines footage from public spaces and transport hubs as the YouTuber questions the perception that many South Asians hold of the British metropolis. The YouTuber, Meharma, claims that people in Pakistan and India frequently praise life in London, particularly when relatives who reside abroad brag about their daily routine. Her scathing and critical remarks demonstrate that the reality on the streets and on public transit differs significantly from the polished impression that many people have of the British metropolis.

The video starts with the vlogger describing the area with the statement, "This is London, baby," before warning viewers that certain sights may be unpleasant. Her voiceover indicates that the film focuses on "commonplace metropolitan views." The YouTuber can be seen riding the tube, where people are covering their mouths (presumably due to a terrible odour).

The YouTuber cited garbage and dirty surroundings in specific public spaces, claiming that such sights explain why "a bad smell can be found everywhere in London." Furthermore, she anticipated potential criticism from UK viewers by hinting that they would question the reality of such situations.

As she compares the visuals to sites in South Asia, the YouTuber sarcastically asks viewers whether they believe the video was recorded near Lahore's Bhati Gate rather than in London. Such instances, she claims, are "very common" in various stations and public locations. The video further shows the streets filled with Indian “desi" cloth stores, to which the vlogger said, “There is nothing left of London."

Social Media Reacts to Video

Several people were left shocked by the clip. “I’ll never be able to sit in any public transport anywhere in the world anymore," a person wrote. Another person praised the Delhi Metro, saying, “Oh my God...kya haal hai yeh…The underground metro stations in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Namo Rapid Transit are clean and secure, comparable to those in all 15 Indian cities.”

"As a Londoner, I affirm this," added another user. However, some people had the opposite viewpoint. "I visited London. London is beautiful, but not like what you're showing," one account said.

The video has triggered mixed reactions online, with some viewers agreeing that large global cities can struggle with cleanliness and crowding, while others felt the clip unfairly portrayed London.
