Modi's Israel trip: PM to meet 26/11 terror attack survivor 'Baby Moshe'

Synopsis

Baby Moshe was just 2 when his parents were killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Mumbai on 26/11. PM Modi will meet him during his 2-day trip to Israel in July. PM Modi will be received by Benjamin Netanyahu and the top protocol team at the airport.

Baby Moshe is 11 years old now and he may not have any memories of the ill-fated day when his parents were killed by the 26/11 terrorists. But the wounds are fresh and accompanying him in his memories of his parents would be Indian PM Narendra Modi. It is said that PM Modi will be visiting the boy during his two-day tour to Israel, starting July 4.

Moshe was only 2 when his parents- Rivka and Gavriel Holtzberg were killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Nariman House in 2008. Eight Israelis were killed in that incident, barring baby Moshe who was saved by his Indian nanny-Sandra who managed to escape. She was later honoured by the Israeli Government with the highest civilian award- 'Righteous Gentile’- for non-Jews. The government also allowed her an extension in the country as she came to reunite Moshe with his maternal grandparents- Shimon and Yehudit Rosenberg. Speaking to ANI, Israel's ambassador to India said, "PM Modi is expected to meet Moshe. I think it will be a very emotional meeting with a very strong message."

PM's visit to Israel has more than one significance. While it is considered to be the first such visit by an Indian premier, it also has a lot of emotional attachments with it. The PM will be received by his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu at the airport. Top protocol team including rabbis and Israelis from various fields will also be gracing the moment of his arrival. In fact, this is a special gesture accorded only to Pope or the US President. A dinner will also be hosted for Modi on July 4.
