Synopsis

According to a warning given to media by the Kabul airport authorities, there would be no commercial flights from Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul to avoid theft and pillage.

Commercial flights from Kabul were cancelled on Monday following chaotic scenes at the airport, with thousands of people attempting to flee after the Taliban retook power in Afghanistan. According to a warning given to media by the Kabul airport authorities, there would be no commercial flights from Hamid Karzai Airport to avoid theft and pillage. It further advised people not to make a hasty trip to the airport.

According to media reports, Air India confirmed that no flights could be operated due to the closure of Kabul airspace. Images from Kabul airport showed a parked plane surrounded by a sea of people pushing and trying to get inside the cabin through the lone ladder linked to the front door.

After President Ashraf Ghani fled the nation and admitted the terrorists had won the 20-year battle, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. The government's shockingly rapid fall, with terrorists seizing the presidential palace on Sunday night, sparked dread and panic throughout Kabul.
